NEWTOWN SAVINGS BANK MAKES
$500 GRANT TO THE NEWTOWN CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
IN SUPPORT OF THE FLAGPOLE RADIO CAFÉ
Newtown, CT - the
Newtown Cultural Arts Commission is pleased to announce that the Newtown
Savings Bank has made a grant of $500 in support of The Flagpole Radio Café. The gift reflects the quality of the program as well as the generosity
of one of Newtown’s most respected businesses.
Newtown Cultural Arts
Commission Chairperson Jennifer Johnston remarked, “The Newtown Savings Bank has a history of supporting worthy
endeavors in our town and we are happy to be part of this tradition. We are
very grateful for their generosity.
This gift will sustain the show and help us celebrate the arts in Newtown."
The Flagpole Radio Café
is an ongoing variety show produced by Newtown residents Jim Allyn, Martin Blanco and
Barbara Gaines, in conjunction with the Newtown Cultural Arts Commission.
The next presentation will be Saturday, October 24 at 7pm in the Edmond Town Hall in Newtown. Singer, musician Katie Wilson backed up by the
celebrated acoustic string band Hoe
will be the guest artists. Ticket prices for this performance are $15. Tickets may be purchased online by clicking
here. There will also be performances on December 5, February 6, March 13 and May 22.

For those not acquainted with
The Flagpole Radio Café, it is an engaging variety show created by
Jim Allyn, Martin Blanco and Barbara Gaines in conjunction with the
Newtown Cultural Arts Commission. It features music by
Jim Allyn and the Flagpole Radio Café Orchestra, a dynamic ensemble created for
the show, and radio style comedy sketches by the hyperbolically named Flagpole Shakespeare Repertory Theatre.
The Flagpole Radio Cafe is hosted by musician and radio personality
Chris Teskey, who also broadcasts the show on his celebrated program on WPKN radio.
Each show features a musical guest artist such as Peter Yarrow,
Vanesse Thomas, Phil Bowler
and Yale’s internationally acclaimed male choir The Whiffenpoofs.
